CAMP Peer Mentors

Alondra Ayala

Alondra grew up in Pasco Washington and attended Chiawana High School. This is her second year at UW pursuing a degree in nursing and she was in CAMP cohort 8. Outside of class, she likes spending her time outdoors being active whether it be hiking, swimming, or going to the gym.

 

 

 

Laura Barrera

Laura Barrera is a third-year student majoring in Sociology and Education, Communities, & Organizations. She comes from the small town of Prosser, Washington and is the first in her family to attend college. During her free time, she likes to spend time with her friends and listen to music. Laura works as the Lead Student Resource Coordinator at the Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center and has served as a CAMP Peer Mentor for two years. She will be graduating from the UW in June 2019 and plans to attend graduate school after.

 

Asael Diaz

Asael was a part of CAMP cohort 8. He is the youngest of 7 children and has a twin sister. Asael comes from a farm worker background and a foster care background. His intended major is Biology and he plans on being a cosmetic dentist in the future. Asael loves animals, swimming, and being active.

 

 

 

Maria Gonzalez

Maria Gonzalez is a second-year student at the University of Washington majoring in Communications and minoring in Diversity.  Maria grew up in the small town of Mattawa, WA. She is also the first in her family to attend a University. Maria works at El Centro de la Raza as the Media and Communications Assistant. During her free time, Maria enjoys reading and distressing by working out. Maria plans on graduating in 2020 and plans on attending Graduate School.

 

 

Flor Hernandez Morales

Flor Hernandez Morales is a first-generation student. From La Conner, WA she has grown up in the Skagit Valley for the majority of her life. Passionate about social justice, education and working towards equity building Flor is currently an undergrad senior double majoring in Education, Communities, and Organizations (ECO) & American Ethnic Studies (AES). From CAMP Cohort 6 and now a CAMP mentor Flor hopes to continue contributing to a community that has been a constant source of support. She enjoys reading, collecting stories, hiking, music and exploring Seattle. Flor is on a continuous journey of learning to embrace and live life fully.

 

Alicia Herrera

Alicia is a junior at UW and is in the Public Health major. She was born and raised in western Washington, in a small town called Mossyrock. After being part of CAMP Cohort 7, she is excited to become a mentor for Cohort 9 students.

 

 

 

Alfredo Lopez

Alfredo Lopez was raised by immigrant farm workers in Prosser Washington. He is a first-generation college student and a current Sophomore at the University of Washington. He is an American Ethnic Studies major, and was a part of CAMP cohort 8, and will be a CAMP Peer Mentor for Cohort 9. Alfredo is currently interning at the City of Seattle’s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs as the Ethnic Media and Communications intern. He has a passion for social justice for the Chicano and farm worker community he comes from.

 

Marla Meza

Marla is from Yakima and she attended AC Davis High School. She is a rising junior in the Civil Engineering department. She was a part of Cohort 7 her freshman year. She is currently the secretary for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and a member of the UW Solar club. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, running, kayaking, and snowboarding.

 

 

 

Karely Ojeda

Karely Ojeda is a current sophomore studying Early Childhood and Family Studies. She was born in Mexico but was raised in the small town of Leavenworth, WA where she graduated from Cascade High School. She enjoys spending time with her family, her friends. On campus, she stays involved in her business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi.

 

 

 

Arturo Villa

Arturo Villa is currently a sophomore and was part of CAMP Cohort 8. He was raised in Royal City Washington. His major is currently in Earth Space Sciences with an emphasis in Physics. In his free time, he enjoys hiking and exploring Seattle. He hopes to graduate from UW and attend grad school in the near future.
