CAMP Peer Mentors

Emely B. Diaz

Emely Barragan is a junior at the University of Washington pursuing a degree in Public Health-Global Health with a minor in Human Rights. She is a first-generation college student from Yakima, WA and was a part of CAMP Cohort 9. She is passionate about the study of epidemiology and reducing health inequalities within low-income communities of color. She plans to publish research for the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.


Nataly Acevedo

Nataly is a fourth year at UW and was a part of CAMP Cohort 8. She was born and raised in Yakima, WA. She is in the College of Education with a focus in Early Childhood and Family Studies. She’s hoping to continue studying by going onto get her master’s degree next year. On her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, and sleeping as much as she can!


Michael Perez

Michael is from the Yakima Valley and is a third-year student at the University of Washington. He is pursuing a degree in Public Health with hopes of becoming a doctor. Michael was a part of CAMP Cohort 9 and has worked with the camp program since as a past Dare to Dream mentor. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his loved ones and exploring Seattle. On campus, he is a brother of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc. and works with his brothers to give back to the community.


Giovanni Perez

Gio is a third-year student at UW and was in the CAMP Cohort 10. He is from Yakima and has one older brother and two younger sisters. He is studying biology with a concentration in physiology and is on a pre-med track. In his free time, he enjoys working out and hanging out with his friends exploring Seattle. 


Maria Adela Euraque Barajas

Maryam is from Yakima, WA. She was a part of Cohort 9 and is currently a junior. She’s majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering and possibly a double major in Computational Finance & Risk Management. She’s currently Secretary for Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). She has 2 sisters and a brother. She enjoys cooking, exploring Seattle and playing tennis.


Emelin Y. Delgado

Emelin is a sophomore at the University of Washington pursuing a degree in Public Health. As a first-generation student she aspires to attend medical school and become a pediatrician. Emelin is grateful to have been part of CAMP’s Cohort 10. During her free time, she loves to explore the Pacific Northwest by going on hikes and lake trips.


Julisan Garcia

Julisan García is a third-year student from Cohort 9 studying Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems and Marketing with a minor in Spanish. Her family resides in Pasco, Washington and she is the first in her family to attend a university. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach, parks, painting, and going on spontaneous adventures with friends.


Melissa Guadarrama

Melissa Guadarrama is a third-year student at UW double majoring in Law, Societies & Justice, and Latin American & Caribbean Studies and was in CAMP Cohort 9. She is proudly from the small town of Wapato, where two incredible immigrant farm workers raised her. Currently, she is a Bilingual Spanish Family Law intern at the King County Bar Association. She hopes to go to law school and become an attorney to provide free/low-cost legal services for her community in the Yakima Valley. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, binge-watching shows, eating out with friends, and watching her favorite soccer teams.


Jonathan Kevin Farias

Mostly known as Johnny, a second year student from Camp Cohort 10. His hometown is Wapato, a small town from Yakima county. His intended major is Informatics and a minor in Spanish. In his free time he enjoys fishing, cooking and soccer.

 


Cassandra Canales

Cassandra Canales is a third-year student majoring in Sociology with a minor in Education and Diversity. Cassandra is a first-generation student from Wapato, WA, and was a part of Cohort 9.  She plans to continue to work with students in higher education and give back to her community. In her free time, she loves to work out, enjoys hanging with friends, and has a blast exploring the city!


Angela Gonzalez

Angela is a third-year student hoping to major in Public Health and go to dental school. She was born and raised in Yakima, Washington and is the first in her family to move away to a university. She was a part of cohort 9 and really glad to continue being involved with CAMP by being a mentor for cohort 11.


Jose Buenrostro

Jose Buenrostro is a sophomore studying Construction Management and was part of CAMP Cohort 10. He grew up in the small town of Quincy, WA, where he was taught to work hard and value his culture by working in the fields since the age of 12. When he’s not in class or studying, he enjoys playing soccer and being active. 


Jesus Buenrostro

Jesus Buenrostro is currently a second year student at UW. He was part of CAMP Cohort 10 and comes from Quincy, WA. He has 3 siblings who have attended or are currently attending UW! He is studying Construction Management with a minor in Portuguese. During his free time he likes to hike, read and play soccer with friends.
