I am working on the institutional and social segmentation of low-wage labor markets, primarily in the United States.  The focus of my next project will be on the work (and worldviews) of the diverse community of “front-line” paraprofessionals, placement officers, “job developers,” and guidance counsellors operating (in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors) at various interfaces with contingent labor markets, including those serving undocumented workers, former welfare recipients, ex-offenders, and other disadvantaged groups.  Working across U.S. cities, the project seeks to calibrate institutional, social, and spatial influences on employment chances, on exposure to socioeconomic risks, and on patterns and processes of labor-market segmentation.
