Among numerous education and training-related resources, UW Medicine Compliance publishes and updates Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) which address numerous areas of compliance, including conflicts of interest (COI) and ethics. Federal laws such as the Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS), which applies to all UW Medicine workforce members, and the Washington State laws such as the Ethics in Public Service Act, which applies to all UW employees, form the backbone of UW Medicine’s COI/ethics-related policies and these FAQs are an extension of that framework. The overarching goal of these FAQs is to help workforce members navigate the UW Medicine rules and norms around gifts, use of institutional resources, outside work, and other related topics so that outside or personal interests which may bias professional judgment or performance of UW Medicine job duties may be avoided.
