Geroscience Peer Mentoring

NOTE: This group and listserv are now being organized by Nicole Liachko at Seattle Children’s. Please contact her for up-to-date information!

Navigating academia can be difficult. With the support of the UW School of Medicine, we have started a Peer Mentoring group for those of us interested in geroscience – broadly aging and geriatrics. The goal of this group is to provide a support structure to help facilitate interactions between local geroscientists so that we can all share advice and resources to help us all be more effective scientists and group leaders. We hope that these activities will also provide opportunities for networking and novel collaborations.

The Peer Mentoring group is a safe place that recognizes the importance of diversity. We have semi-regular meetings to discuss topics of interest to the group, sometimes with invited speakers. Junior faculty are often the focus of our events, but we also welcome more senior faculty, postdocs, and graduate students. If you would like to join us, please join the GeroPM listserv to get notifications of when activities are planned.

Special thanks to George Martin for getting this group started. Many of us have benefitted from George’s advice and mentoring over the years and this is a new way that we hope will extend these interactions to the wider geroscience community.
