Clinician is demonstrating the use of the prototype in the pediatric dental clinic. The researcher can view the monitor for highly detailed images of the suspected carious region using a flexible, sheathed, 1.6-mm-diameter SFE probe with scanned 405-nm laser illumination. The black box under the display monitor remains closed during clinical examinations, but contains the spectroscopic optical biopsy instrumentation.
