Lacie Levy

Lacie is a dual-title Ph.D. student in Oceanography and Astrobiology at UW, advised by Dr. Jodi Young. She got her B.S. at the University of Texas at Austin, where she worked in Brett Baker’s lab hunting for novel archaea and studying the origin of eukaryotes. Her current work focuses on the metabolites of sea-ice microbial communities. She’s interested in what these extreme polar environments can teach us about icy ocean worlds—especially when it comes to figuring out which icy moons might support life and what molecular biosignatures missions like Europa Clipper should look for.
Outside of school, Lacie is a homebody who loves hanging out with her husband and dog. When she does leave the house, she spends most of her time at the gym and catching up with her workout buddies
