Jordyn Robare is an astrobiologist and NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow in Genome Sciences. She studies how life and environment shape each other, using thermodynamics to understand how microbes adjust their cell membrane lipids to environmental change and to separate potential biosignatures from abiotic chemistry on other worlds. Her past work includes characterizing lipids and energy supplies in Yellowstone hot springs, building a Python package for estimating the thermodynamic properties of organic molecules, and examining the potential for organic synthesis on Enceladus. In 2023, Jordyn sailed aboard the JOIDES Resolution and collected samples from a record-deep 1,268 m core of serpentinites from the Atlantis Massif near Lost City Hydrothermal Field. She is currently investigating the lipids used by microbial communities in these samples. She received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Arizona State University.
