During his time at UW, Joshua Sacks studied Chemical Oceanography and Astrobiology in Dr. Anitra Ingalls’ marine microbial metabolomics lab. Before graduate school, he graduated from The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA with a B.S. in Chemistry and Marine Science. His past research focused on the impact of harmful algal blooms on estuarine biogeochemistry, Antarctic zooplankton distributions, and synthesizing crystalline analogs to study the binding of proteins to toxic metals. The focus of his graduate work was developing a method to measure dissolved metabolites and applying this method to study ocean bacteria. In his free time, he enjoys photography, cooking, and training for triathlons.
