In order to receive the full benefit of the toolkit and thoroughly understand PEARLS, staff who will be providing the program to older adults should complete training before providing the program

PEARLS TRAINING

The PEARLS Implementation Toolkit includes: 

  • Background on the Program to Encourage Active, Rewarding Lives (PEARLS). 
  • Detailed instructions, guidance, and tips about starting the program and having PEARLS sessions with older adults. 
  • All the forms needed to create the organizational and data management infrastructure to support the program.

  • The copyright information and citation of PEARLS may not be altered or changed. It must remain on the forms.
  • You may not use these materials to develop your own training for PEARLS except to do refresher, in-service training for in-house staff.
  • You may not claim or suggest the Toolkit is your creation.
  • You may not present yourself as a PEARLS trainer or coach, unless you have completed the required training to do so.

Please note, we previously referred to PEARLS coaches as counselors, but changed the name to avoid confusion because counseling experience is not needed. We also encourage organizations to adapt phrases or text based on the cultural needs and preferences of their communities (e.g., using different words for depression or coach).
