PLEASE NOTE: Credentialing at the VA is an extensive process and can take several weeks to complete. It is important to being this process no less than eight weeks prior to the start of your rotation. Failure to meet credentialing deadlines can result in cancellation of your clerkship.

Site Onboarding Tasks: No less than eight weeks prior (or sooner if requested by the site), please provide the following information to the site coordinator:

Students will also need an HR appointment at the VA. Please bring the following to your appointment:

Fingerprinting: All personnel at VAMC is required to have fingerprinting completed within 120 of the start of your rotations. These incoming fingerprints, “Courtesy Fingerprints” may be done at any VA facility throughout the United States. Students that have an unexpired VA badge do not need to repeat fingerprinting. Do not wait until the last minute to complete this step as processing time can vary.


First Day Instructions

Instructions and resident contact information for the first day of the rotation will be available on Canvas. Students will be granted access to Canvas during the week prior to the start of the rotation and the expectation is that all orientation and site specific information is to be reviewed prior to the first day of the rotation. Students will receive an email from the Dept. of Surgery with additional information about Canvas.
