This project will collect truck and car counts from video data for streets designated by the City of Seattle as Major Truck Streets into and out of both the general Ballard area of Seattle and specifically the Ballard Interbay North Manufacturing and Industrial Center. Researchers at the UW Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Center will use FHWA’s vehicle classification system and an additional large vehicle classification framework developed previously for Seattle to determine which gateways are used by which truck types, determine the volumes of trucks at different times of day, and estimate and compare the numbers of inbound and outbound trucks. This information will allow SDOT to consider the impacts of various economic growth scenarios, advanced freight vehicle technologies, and other social, demographic, and policy change factors on gateway truck routes entering/exiting the Ballard area.
