Artist Statement

If I am wearing a shirtdress, I will pull it up, making sure to grab the back half and pull it around my waist, and then sit down.

If I am wearing a suit without a belt on the trousers, and there is no coat hanger, I will probably stand.

If I am wearing a suit without a belt on the trousers, and there is a coat hanger, I will probably remove my jacket, and sit.

If I am wearing a suit without a belt, and there is no coat hanger, I will probably stand.

If I am wearing a suit without a belt, and there is a coat hanger, I will remove my jacket, and sit.

If I am wearing a trench coat, and there is no coat hanger, or the stall is too small to comfortably remove the coat, I will stand with my legs bowed, so as to catch the left and right sides of the coat with my knees against the fabric of my pants, and stand.

If I am wearing pants with a button-fly or an elastic waistband, I will sit down.

If I am wearing a military coat, and there is no coat hanger, and the floor is clean, I will remove my coat, place it on the floor, and sit.

If I am wearing layers of jackets, I will remove all but the shirt or sweater, and sit.

If I am wearing a jumpsuit, I will probably stand uncomfortably or reluctantly sit (there is no winning).

If I am wearing pants that sit on the hips, I will definitely stand.

If I am wearing oversized pants, I will slide them off to sit.

If I am wearing wrap pants, I will unwrap them to sit.

If I am wearing a flight suit from the Vietnam war, I will rather sit than clumsily unbutton and unzip the bottom flap that allows the suit to be worn when sitting. I worry about swathes of fabric touching water.

If I am wearing overalls, I will probably stand, unless I am hurried, in which case I will sit.

If I am wearing my pants tucked into my socks, I will probably stand.

If I am wearing running shorts, I will stand.

If I am wearing shorts with a button and zipper, I will sit.

If I am wearing tights or long-johns underneath a pair of pants, I will sit, although I may stand but it is highly improbable.

If I am wearing leather chaps, I will unbuckle the the chaps, and remove whatever pants are underneath to sit.

If I am wearing wooden clogs, I will sit down.

If I am wearing a pants with drawstrings, I will undo the strings and sit.

If I am wearing pants with a snap buckle, I will undo the buckle and sit.

If I am wearing motocross pants with an adjustable snap closure (as found on rollerblades and ski boots), I will undo the adjustable snap closure (as found on rollerblades and ski boots) and sit.

If I am wearing an asymmetrical jacket, I will hold its dominant side and stand.

If I am abroad I will almost always elect to squat rather than sit, but the details of that are for another list.
