Caitlyn Wilson

Caitlyn Wilson

Artist Statement

Caitlyn Wilson was born in Clarksville, TN, where she spent much of her time in her parent’s military surplus store. Her youthful foundations in dance, music, and literature have made lasting impressions on her current studio practice. She received her BFA in printmaking and drawing from her hometown’s local liberal arts college, Austin Peay State University. From there she went on to teach ESL in Yokohama, Japan, before returning to the states in pursuit of her master’s degree. In her recent work, Caitlyn implements her physical and cultural surroundings into her practice through the lens of her own implicit bias. She questions the socio-political current by relating past to present through form, space, and language. Caitlyn’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally including a recent solo exhibition at Sand Point Gallery in Seattle, WA, and group exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Singapore. After earning her MFA at the University of Washington, she will move to New York City where she will engage with a new community as an artist in residence at Trestle Gallery in Brooklyn.
