Robert Morris

Dr. Morris’ laboratory is located in the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington. We are interested in bacteria and archaea because they are critical to the cycling of nutrients in the oceans. We study these microorganisms in the laboratory and in the environment, combining cultivation based approaches and molecular biology to better understand their contribution to the cycling of nutrients in marine ecosystems.

He is also one of the core faculty for Interactive Oceans, an initiative involving universities throughout the country that will encircle entire tectonic plates along the west coast of North America with fiber-optic cables and other massive instrumentation, providing high-quality, real-time data.
