This four-month cohort program focuses on essential content and skills needed by first level-leaders at UW Medicine.

Who should participate?

  • First-level leaders such as Supervisors and Managers who directly supervise individual contributors
  • People who oversee the work of others, but are not in a formal supervisory role (such as Leads and Assistant Nurse Managers) are also welcome to participate

Program description

The Leadership Foundations program consists of a series of four one-day workshops that are completed sequentially over four months. The sessions are immersive, all-day experiences with opportunity for group discussion, breakout sessions and individual work. Participants complete pre-work activities before each workshop and practice and apply new learning and skills between workshops. Participants complete the entire series as part of cohort of 18-23 people.

This program equips first-level leaders at UW Medicine with knowledge, skills, and methods to enable you to be successful in your role. The program features:

  • Four sequential, one-day workshops, one month apart
  • Skills and tools that are carried through the program and built on from workshop to workshop
  • Inter-session assignments to apply skills and tools on-the-job between workshops
  • Learning partners to reflect on accomplishments and challenges between workshops

What previous participants have said

Thank you! I feel lucky to have worked with such a great group of leaders. It gives me hope that we’re on the right track as an organization.

I can’t thank you enough for creating this class and giving us these foundational tools to use as we grow our leadership skills.

If I have to take a 30,00 foot overview, I would say the most useful aspect of this class was twofold: 1 – the opportunity to be exposed to new a different ways of thinking about how to do what we do, and 2 – the opportunity to interact with an amazing group of people I would never have met otherwise.  That was something that cannot be over-emphasized.
