The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation supported Research Development Program is in its 24th year of funding at the University of Washington and its research emphasis continues to be Pseudomonas aeruginosa biology, host immune responses, and clinical research. Our mission is to:

  • Foster collaboration among researchers in the field of cystic fibrosis
  • Bring new researchers into the CF field, both established investigators whose area of research expertise enriches the CF program and young investigators initiating academic careers
  • Publish the results of RDP supported projects in peer-reviewed journals
  • And of course, most of all, improve the lives of individuals with cystic fibrosis by providing fundamental knowledge that can lead to development of new and improved therapeutics and patient care

The strength of our program has resulted from two key factors:

  1. A strong relationship between basic and clinical scientists nurturing translational research
  2. Program flexibility permitting the UW RDP to evolve in response to new research developments and initiatives, both within and outside the University

The Program is a university-wide initiative; it has involved faculty from 15 departments. The Program maintains core facilities for use by cystic fibrosis researchers, funds pilot research projects, and supports fellows involved in cystic fibrosis research. We also sponsor research seminars and organize a retreat for cystic fibrosis researchers.
