Matthew James

Matthew James is a self-taught artist with no formal training. He always has enjoyed art but did not pursue it seriously until he began attending the NW Special Artists’ Open Studio. It was through this program when his art began to take off. Matthew prefers to paint using acrylics on canvas and enjoys drawing with pen and ink. He has found great joy, peace and solace in his artwork. It is often very difficult for him to express himself, but his art has given him a unique way to express himself to the world. His style of painting is very similar to some of the techniques used in French Impressionism. Matthew has exhibited his work at various exhibitions at the ArtWorks Gallery in Edmonds, WA as the “2013 Colors of My World” exhibition, “Winter Wonderland” show, “Inspire” Exhibition, “2014 Colors of My World” exhibition and in 2014 through the Edmonds Arts Commission in the “Dream Big”, Edmonds Library exhibition. He most recently exhibited his work at the Bellevue Arts Museum, Community Gallery in the 2014- 2015, “Rising Stars” exhibition and he has sold his artwork to our local community and internationally his artwork has traveled abroad as far as England.
