“WORK WILL SET YOU FREE.” Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, Oranienburg, Germany.
A profound feeling began unfolding as my classmates and I walked through the entrance of the camp. This put into relief how often we are alienated from the topics we study in academics. Sachsenhausen embodies the level of support and control given to the Nazi regime. Its unique, dual history both as a Nazi concentration camp and a Soviet internment camp where prisoners were treated equally inhumanly is accented by the enormous obelisk dedicated to the fallen Soviet soldiers.
