I have not been able to fully reflect and debrief on my study abroad experience. Here is a glimpse of some of my journal entries. These journal entries describe my thoughts and feelings while visiting Cape Coast Castle and the Atlantic Ocean. I try to process what it was like to visit Cape Coast Castle and I grapple with the beauty of the ocean and the tragic history of the ocean. The last journal entry is my journal entry 9 months after my trip. I still feel troubled. I am still asking questions and I continue to learn.
Rosalva (she/her) is a senior majoring in Comparative Histories of Ideas and Sociology. She participated in a 3-week study abroad program on “Global Service Learning and the Politics of Help” in Ghana in the early fall of 2019. Her interests include language revitalization, storytelling, and exchanging knowledge.
