Problem set 3 clarification of the day:

  1. If you work in detail through Q.2, you may get into difficulties if you don't know about some plant-specific funny business. To make sense of the data, assume that progeny numbers in the table are just for diploid progeny (i.e., progeny with no extra chromosomes).
  2. On Q.4, assume that the embryos that were X-rayed were completely normal (prior to the X-ray treatment).

Clarification/changes to Problem Set #3:

  • Question 2: Assume that trisomics in corn are viable (at least with one chromosome at a time being trisomic)
  • Question 5: Phenotypes should read --
    • "(ii) 30 green spots, each also consisting of rough hyphae."
    • "(iv) 3 spots of hyphae that were fat and airborne."

"Green, airborne spots or rough-, fat-hyphae spots were never observed."

Welcome to Genetics 371B!

Get the required course pack at Professional Copy & Print (at the corner of 42nd St. and the Ave.). There is no textbook requirement; if you would like to have a textbook, I would recommend "An Introduction to Genetic Analysis", 7th Ed., by Griffiths et al., available in the bookstore. The solutions manual for problems in the book is also useful to have.
