Dementia Friends Champions help us spread the word about supporting people living with dementia. This spotlight features the great people championing our shared mission to make communities more dementia friendly. Today, we spotlight Anessa Boyer, Planning Coordinator at Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington!
Anessa Boyer, she/her, Spokane, WA
Why did you decide to become a Dementia Friend Champion?
When I started my role at Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington my knowledge on dementia and its impacts was limited. Being involved with Dementia Friends has helped me expand my knowledge so much, and I learn more every time I give an info session or train a new group of Champions.
What do you do outside of Dementia Friends?
My husband and our one-year-old son love to be outdoors in our yard, and we do lots of hiking and running. We also have a pitbull/chow mix and are in the process of becoming foster parents.
What is a project, event, or initiative that excites you?
Right now a very important part of my job at Aging and Long Term Care is working on our Area Plan for 2023-2026. This involves surveying the community and conducting focus groups so that we can gauge what services people are in need of and what gaps there are in the community that we can address. Our services around dementia and brain health are a very important piece of this!
What would you like your team to know about you?
Though I have only lived in Spokane for 5 years, I love being a part of this community! Serving Eastern Washington, especially our rural communities is a passion of mine. I look forward to continue exploring this area and connecting further with the community.
