Dear Girls

You will hold a special place in my heart. I see the fire in you as you dance on stage with your sisters. Your faces suggest pain, but your dance reflects your covert passion. I sit next to the drunken man during the performance hoping you will never encounter his wrath. I hope the man you are married off to will love you for your confidence and spark. I hope your sprit is not lost in the patriarchal cloud above you. I can only hope and wish that you will live a life of joy and love. But once I leave I may never know if you never went to school again. Or if you were sent to work at home the rest of your life. I may never know if you explore the rest of your country outside your village. I may never know if you dance on stage for your family and friends again. You have taught me a love I have never seen before and I hope it stays in your hearts.
