Parametric Fellowship Recipient Profile: Zeeshan Jawaid

Computational Finance and Risk Management Program Director Tim Leung is proud to announce Mr. Zeeshan Jawaid as the first recipient of the Parametric Fellowship for Opportunity and Advancement in Computational Finance and Risk Management, in partnership with Parametric Portfolio Associates.

Zeeshan is a CFRM Master of Science candidate, in the 2021 cohort. He is joining us after completing his undergraduate degree at Arizona State University in Computational Mathematical Sciences with minors in Business and Dance.

Zeeshan’s volunteer experience distributing food at the Yuma Food Bank and supporting medical staff at Yuma Cancer Center and Dr. Chaman Luthra Eye Clinic demonstrates his dedication to community service. His commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is evident in his research projects. Zeeshan’s team won second place at the Desert Hacks Hackathon by developing a Python-based service that sent Google Maps directions via SMS to provide directions services in developing countries with SMS coverage, but little Wi-fi/Cellular Data coverage.

Additionally, Zeeshan brings a unique perspective to our program with his background in dance and his ability to use computational methods as inspiration in his choreography. Jawaid states, “I’m grateful to have been awarded this fellowship by Parametric and am honored to be able to use this opportunity to be an advocate for diversity & inclusion within quantitative finance.”

The Parametric Fellowship comes after a longtime friendship between Parametric and the CFRM program. “We recognize that successfully serving our clients and providing the caliber of investment insights they have come to expect from us requires teamwork of professionals who represent diverse perspectives, backgrounds and experiences,” said Thomas Lee, CFA, Chief Investment Officer, Equities and Derivatives. “The new fellowship program deepens our already strong relationship with the University of Washington and expands our efforts to elevate diversity and equity in the quantitative finance profession.”

The Parametric Fellowship provides tuition assistance in addition to an annual living expense stipend, and is expected to be awarded to an eligible candidate for the 2022-2023 academic year.
