GALA | Awards Criteria

We are proud to announce the Annual Kelly ECC RSO GALA Awards to honor registered student organizations and student leaders who have made significant contributions to the mission of the Kelly ECC. Our main criteria to be eligible for our awards is that the RSO nominated must be an approved and affiliated RSO with both the Student Activities Office (SAO) and the ECC. Please see below for further information on what makes a nomination eligible and what kinds of characteristics we are looking for!


Organizational Recognition

Commitment to Community & Service

Award Type

About This Award

The Commitment to Community & Service Award is to be presented annually to an RSO who:

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to public service
  • Has provided outstanding leadership in the community
  • Committed to continued inspired civic engagement
  • Motivates and excites students about civic involvement
  • Creates opportunities to mobilize other groups and volunteers

Outstanding Collaboration & Participation

Award Type

Organizational Only / $250.00 Monetary Award

About This Award

The Outstanding Collaboration & Participation Award is to be presented annually to an RSO who:

  • Has shown a strong track record of partnership with the Kelly ECC
  • Commitment to attending and supporting of other RSOs’ events/programs in addition to the Kelly ECC’s
  • Provides quality programs that promotes interaction among its members, the Kelly ECC community, and the greater UW community
  • Commitment to the University of Washington and the Kelly ECC community through active membership, participation, and presence in community related events, social functions, committees, and partnerships

Most Impactful Programming

Award Type

Organizational Only / $250.00 Monetary Award

About This Award

The Most Impactful Programming Award is to be presented annually to an RSO who:

  • Hosts programming that promotes interaction among its members, the Kelly ECC, the OMA&D community, and especially the greater University of Washington community
  • Implements efficient budget management, collaborative volunteer coordination, and successful program/event completion!
  • Hosts programming that cultivates dialogue and discourse across a multitude of divides whether it be identity, political affiliations, etc

Breakout Organization

Award Type

Organizational Only / $250.00 Monetary Award

About This Award

The Breakout Organization Award is to be presented annually to an RSO who:

  • Demonstrated tremendous growth throughout the year in programming/events, organizational membership, visibility, and outreach into the greater Seattle and King County communities
  • Has really come into their own by establishing a clear and distinct identity while working alongside all our other amazing student organizations
  • Established new partnerships that created a model for other student organizations to follow

About This Award

The Organization of the Year Award is to be presented annually to an RSO who:

  • Demonstrated a commitment to excellence in the fulfillment of the missions of their RSO, the Kelly ECC, and the UW Community throughout the academic year
  • Demonstrated excellence in the recruitment and retention of its members, social activism, leadership, community service, Kelly ECC participation/collaboration
  • Promoted its mission through the cultivation of an educational environment by providing programs and services which enhance the communication and exchange of multi/cross/intercultural perspectives and values

Leadership Award

About This Award

The Leadership Award is to be presented annually to an individual who:

  • Motivates peers by encouraging them to develop and pursue personal and professional goals and by setting a positive example in their actions
  • Actively seeks out personal growth and development as well as opportunities for acquiring or enhancing desirable knowledge, skills, and abilities and exhibits self-confidence and buoyancy in their individual talents, creativity, and initiative
  • Displays respect and courtesy to all students, faculty, and staff no matter how difficult the circumstances and works to maintain a fair, straightforward, honorable and open environment
  • Is willing to be courageous in what they stand for and makes decisions based on their values, always dealing ethically in all business/professional relationships and by maintaining the highest personal standards
  • Strives to share responsibility, authority, effort,  information, and credit when and where due

Activism Award

About This Award

The Activism Award is to be presented annually to an individual who:

  • Is involved in several forms of progressive activism in an effort to positively affect people and societies in relation to human rights, cultural work, policy making and/or education
  • Takes action at the local level to show how real change can be accomplished and actively attempts to challenge perceptions, stay informed, and educate the community about social justice issues and causes
  • Is unafraid to speak certain truths that bring about needed dialogue and careful analysis of institutional inequities to be evaluated and addressed through collaborative work and intentional practice

Branching Out

Award Type

Individual Only / Commemorative Statuette

About This Award

The Branching Out Award is to be presented annually to an individual who:

  • Purposefully reaches out to others in an effort to form new social bonds and connections, often times placing themselves in unfamiliar environments and experiences
  • Has demonstrated that they are able to reach across differences to find shared values and common ground with others
  • Actively seeks out personal growth and development through supportive and challenging dialogue.
