Let’s Talk @ Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center
Mar 10 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

What is Let’s Talk?

Let’s Talk is a program that connects UW students with support from experienced counselors from the Counseling Center and Hall Health without an appointment.

Counselors hold drop-in hours at various sites on campus and can help provide insight, solutions and information about other resources. Let’s Talk drop-in visits are free, confidential and there is no appointment necessary.

Let’s Talk offers informal consultation – it is not a substitute for regular therapy, counseling or psychiatric care.

Let’s Talk is supported by UW Parent & Family Programs and the Services & Activities Fee.

Tuesdays, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Mar 10 @ 11:30 pm – 11:45 pm

In collaboration with the Q Center, UW Housing & Food Services, the UW Women’s Center and the ASUW Womxn’s Action Commission, the Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center proudly presents the 17th Annual Womxn of Color Celebration (formerly Womxn of Color Reception). Join us for a feel-good luncheon where we’ll celebrate ourselves, be in community and envision new futures together. This year’s program features the ever-amazing Dr. Joy Williamson – Lott as our keynote speaker, q&a, and a catered lunch. We hope to see you there!

Keynote bio:
Joy Williamson-Lott assumed the role of Dean of the Graduate School in July 2019. She is also a professor and previously an associate dean in the College of Education, an accomplished scholar and researcher in the field of American higher education, and a committed advocate for equity and diversity in higher education. She is the author of several books examining black higher educational history and the black freedom struggle, including her most recent book, “Jim Crow Campus: Higher Education and the Struggle for a New Southern Social Order.” Her teaching focuses on education as a moral endeavor, the shifting definition of “proper education” and “liberation” for different social groups, and the educational histories of people of color.”

Be The Match Trivia & Gift Card Giveaway @ Online through Zoom
May 15 @ 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Be The Match is the world’s largest and most diverse marrow and stem cell donor registry, and facilitates all the transplants needed in the United States. Right now, they need as many people, especially people from multicultural backgrounds, to register so that patients in need can hold out hope of finding the genetically matched donor that will save their life. Patients match to donors that share their same genetic markers which is heavily influenced by one’s heritage, therefore patients and donors when matching often share the same ethnicity. Currently there are the odds for patients in finding their perfectly matched donor, obviously there is a huge disparity patients of color face, and the only way we can even these odds is by recruiting more donors from diverse backgrounds.
ECC is partnering with Be The Match on a digital campaign to recruit stem cell donors for the transplant donor registry and save those with blood disorders
Be The Match and the ECC will be giving away a $25 Visa gift card Friday, May 15th at 3:30pm in a zoom webinar for the winner of Be The Match/ ECC Trivia! All you have to do is attend!Zoom link: https://washington.zoom.us/j/99155339975

Additionally, if you do any of the following tasks, you will be entered into a drawing for a Visa Gift Card!
1. Joining the registry – send a screenshot to ECC instagram.
2. Post on social media – tagging UW ECC + Be The Match
3. ‘Refer a Friend’ – if you recruit your friends, you and your friends will get another entry- must send screenshots to the ECC instagram.
4. Participate in live events like trivia!

Thank you for joining in on our campaign to save lives during these uncertain times. We have the power to act and provide life-saving solutions. Together.
We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
ECC Health & Wellness Team
