The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity and ASUW Latine Commission along with its partners is proud to announce the 24th Annual Latine Graduation Ceremony. The event  honors the accomplishments of Chicanx and Latinx graduating students in the spirit and traditions of Latine culture.

Join us in honoring our accomplishments at the University of Washington along with your family and friends. The graduation ceremony includes Serape stole, music, student and keynote speakers and a slideshow. Registration is now closed!

If you are interested in being a Class Speaker please sign up HERE! Class Speakers are required to submit an application and undergo an interview with ASUW Latine Student Commission Director and interns. The applications are now open!

Keynote Speaker Application

We need your help in identifying a featured speaker to address the graduating class and the families. Do you have a favorite faculty in mind? Perhaps UW Latine Alumni or community member that has made an impact in our communities? Each year we invite a UW faculty, staff, Alumni or community member to address the audience and provide some words of wisdom, encouragement for our students.

The Latine Graduation Celebration was created by students in partnership with the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity and the ASUW Latinx Student Commission Office and its constituents.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When and where is the 2024 Annual Latine Graduation?

This year it will be held on Thursday, June 6, from 6:30PM to 8:00PM in Meany Hall located near Red Square.

Who can participate?

Any UW Seattle campus student (undergraduate or graduate/doctoral candidate) completing a degree in Spring 2024, Summer 2024 or Fall 2024.

How many guests can I bring?

Due to limited seating, each graduating student will receive 5 guest tickets. There is no priority setting, your family can sit together, on a first come first serve basis. Children, 2 years and older, will require their own ticket/seat; children under 2 years of age, may sit in the lap of an adult.  Graduating students will be seated  at the front.

Where do I park?

How much does it cost to participate?

Participation is FREE, for graduating students and their families, but there is limited seating so sign up as soon as possible.

How do I register?

How early do I need to check-in for the Latine Graduation?

Check-in time will begin approximately 1 hour before the event. You must be present at least 30 minutes before the event begins in order to participate.

What do I wear?

We encourage you to wear your academic regalia (cap & gown) for this event.

What is the Class Speaker?

Two graduates will address the class and audience with a 4-6 minute speech

How do I get an ethnic sash/stole?

The stole/sash is a gift from the graduation committee to the graduating students who have registered for the 2024 Latine Graduation Celebration, you must be present the day of the graduation to receive it. Unfortunately, we have limited stock on hand and cannot sell or give any to those not registered.

What happens if I don’t register in time? Is there a waiting list?

We have limited seating, therefore we encourage you to register as soon as possible. We will keep a waiting list however we cannot guarantee you will get an open seat.

Who plans the graduation?

The Celebration is funded by the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, The Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center, ASUW Latine Student Commission, in partnership with the UW Alumni Association Multicultural Alumni Partnership. The ceremony is planned by Kelly ECC staff and the ASUW Latine Commission graduation committee; faculty, staff and students.

Can I attend the Latine Graduation AND my own school’s graduation?

Absolutely, As long as it is not happening at the same time.
