Freedom within the Anthropocene

This is an edited journal entry–

The readings for class involved an author named Lambcher. He covered the idea of freedom within the Anthropocene and I found it very interesting. He does well describing how freedom of power is the ultimate human freedom that’s achievable. He explains this by suggesting that the ultimate human freedom is to be able to live without restricts from nature and thus live freely. Throughout time, we have mastered science and technology which has then shifted us into the ecological era called the Anthropocene. In this era, we have mastered nature and thus control its out comes at times. Through this power, we have manipulated nature to the fullest and have damaged our earth severely. Lambacher then explains that this sort of thinking is very detrimental towards green theory and leads to restrictions on individual freedoms. Governments in developed countries such as the United States must use politics in order to help the earth and benefit nature. These governments implement laws that restrict everyday freedoms for their own citizens to protect this nature that they once tried to triumph over. It is interesting and very ironic that this cycle has taken place. Freedom has changed from an idea of conquering to an idea of sharing. Before, humans tried to conquer the world and build but now, today we all try to live peacefully with nature. It is also interesting to consider the fact that one developed countries’ actions have no impact on another countries actions. Interesting food for thought in my opinion.
