A big thing that happens a lot when talking about issues in the Anthropocene is we get so negative that its hard to even work on the issue. This of course is hardly better than denying the issue is there as the end result is the same: nothing gets done. I think the novel Active Hope was by leaps and bounds my favorite because the message of the three different stories resonated with me so well.

Because while I look around the world and see a lot of reasons to worry, I also see a lot of positives and its in those that we should find our time spent on because that is how differences are made. As the novel says, Active Hope is not something that we have, its something that we do.

When I thought of this all that came to my mind was the Shell NO! campaign here in Seattle. Because while there are a million reasons to be gloomy about the state of things, these people went out and not only made a stand for whats right, but they made a difference!
