In the book The Anthropocene by Christian Schwägerl he mentioned that “loving and hating are primeval phenomena that are deeply anchored in our biology.” I somewhat disagree. The theory of opposites has been quite prevalent currently in my educational studies and comes up a lot during philosophical discussion. What I have found to be true is that there can be no opposite to which is all encompassing. I think fear and hate are illusions and not congruent with reality and the truth. That is why negative thinking and unconscious living is linked to malignancies in the body and why there are so many powerful stories about people practicing self love and healing their self of multitudes of things. For example, Anita Moorjani’s story is absolutely dumbfounding and awe-inspiring. She was in the midst’s of end stage cancer and had gone into a comma. The doctors were explaining to her family at this moment that she would only have a few more hours before she passed. Despite the doctor’s information, Anita was conscious during all of this and encountered a sense of enlightenment leading her to reject all actions and aspects that were not in line with self love and by the end of the month she was completely healed of a cancer that had led her as close as possible to death. These malignancies happen when we are not in tune with true nature. I think a major difficulty in today’s society is that we are disconnected from our spirit and from ourselves. Further implementing into us the exact goal of consumerism to make us feel the need to fill a void that does not exist. It even leads to the concept of materialism, by leading people to wander aimlessly trying to find themselves through external things. Of course this is always short-lived because it is not in alignment with truth which furthers the means of wastefulness and over consumption. In the end, love will set us free. Not fear, disgust, or hatred of what we are doing, but love. Love for each other, love for the planet, and love for life.
