“Imaging approaches to understand the role of CD2AP in kidney and Alzheimer disease”

Special Guest Speaker

Andrey S. Shaw, MD

Genentech Staff Scientist, Immunology-Oncology

Why attend

Dr. Shaw cloned CD2AP as a protein involved in the Immunological Synapse.  Surprisingly, mouse knockout studies showed that CD2AP plays an important role in the kidney podocyte and human genetics studies implicate CD2AP as a susceptibility gene in Alzheimers.  The exact role of CD2AP is not known.  The Shaw lab has been using a variety of imaging approaches including intravital 2 photon microscopy as well as lattice light sheet microscopy as well as proteomic studies to understand the basic mechanism of CD2AP function to try and understand its relevance in kidney and Alzheimer diseases.
