Taken from my journal-
Today, I had a talk with professor Litfin about whether human beings are actually considered part of nature or not. Our discussion got me thinking deeply on this subject. So the conclusion I came to is that humans are the next process of nature. No other species within the Earth are capable of the type of conscious thinking that humans are capable of. Is it too far to think that maybe we are nature’s next evolutionary step? For one, our species is alone at understanding our planets needs. We are able to fully comprehend our footprint on this planet and how much we take away from nature itself. We might consider ourselves harmful to the environment and nature but consider the fact that we also provide solutions to environmental issues. It is interesting to consider that we are the part of nature that thinks. Human beings are known for our humanity and care for other species and lives that do not affect our own. For example, we as humans care for the person we see on TV or read in the newspaper, either feeling happy for the certain person or feeling sad and wishing you could help that person. As the brain of nature we must understand that we control the future of our planet. In the geological era of the Anthropocene, human beings are considered problematic and detrimental to the health of the planet Earth. It is even easier to blame human beings for putting nature and the planet in this sort of position. However, one must consider the fact that we have learned much about this world and universe and this knowledge can lead to us fixing old mistakes. As a species we are the only ones who are aware that global warming exists or that endangered species is a direct consequences of habitat loss or habitat destruction. We might be the problem but i consider us more of the solution. I believe that we are nature’s brain.
