CAMP Peer Mentors

Alexis Rodriguez 

Alexis Rodriguez is a third-year student at the University of Washington and was part of cohort 10. Alexis is a first generation student from the Yakima Valley studying Mechanical Engineering. He hopes to work for Tesla in the future and wants to be a role model for his younger siblings and prove to them that if he can go to college and be successful, they can do it as well. In his free time, Alexis likes to dance to hispanic music and watch netflix.

 

 


 

 

Karen Maldonado 

I’m a third-year student at the University of Washington intending to major Business Marketing with a minor in Spanish. A little bit about me is that I was raised in Mexico until I was 12 years old. I was part of Cohort 10 and I’m excited to be back in campus as a CAMP mentor.

 


 

Elizabeth Hernandez 

Elizabeth is a third-year student at the University of Washington intending to double major in Law, Societies & Justice and Spanish. She is a first-generation student from a small town called Prosser, WA and was part of Cohort 10. After her undergraduate at UW she hopes to go to law school and become a lawyer and give back to her community. In her free time, she likes to spend time with family and friends as well as going on spontaneous adventures and watch basketball.


 

 

Norma Edith Martinez Magaña

Norma is a second-year student and was part of CAMP Cohort 11. She was born and raised in Yakima, WA. She is in the Michael G. Foster School of Business and planning to focus on Accounting and Information Systems with a minor in Real Estate. She uses her free time to spend time with friends, explore the city, and relax by watching movies. Norma enjoys staying involved with campus events and volunteering. Her goal is to travel after graduation and work at a job she can constantly grow in.

 


 

Emely B. Diaz

Emely Barragan is a junior at the University of Washington pursuing a degree in Public Health-Global Health with a minor in Human Rights. She is a first-generation college student from Yakima, WA and was a part of CAMP Cohort 9. She is passionate about the study of epidemiology and reducing health inequalities within low-income communities of color. She plans to publish research for the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

 


 

Minelly Sereno 

Minelly Sereno-Villegas is a 2nd year at UW from cohort 11 and is hoping to pursue a BS in public in global health, she is a first gen student from the Yakima valley and is the youngest of three and the first to attend a major university. She enjoys running, exploring new things and hanging with friends.


Sergio Virgen 

Sergio is a second-year student at UW and he is pursuing a major in informatics. He is originally from Pasco, WA and has a family rivalry with his sister who is a WSU graduate. He was a part of Cohort 11 and he is excited to be back with CAMP this year as a mentor. In his free time, he enjoys riding his skateboard, he loves watching movies, and he is always down to have a good time!


Gaby Jose-Cruz

Gaby is a second-year student at the University of Washington. She was a part of Cohort 11 and is happy to continue being involved with CAMP. Gaby is studying Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. She is a first-generation college student from Everson, WA, a small town in Whatcom County. She enjoys having picnics with her friends and exploring the city!

 

 


 

Jonathan Kevin Farias

Mostly known as Johnny, a second year student from Camp Cohort 10. His hometown is Wapato, a small town from Yakima county. His intended major is Informatics and a minor in Spanish. In his free time he enjoys fishing, cooking and soccer.

 


Linda Barragan 

Linda is a third-year student majoring in Biology and minoring in Diversity and Education, Learning and Societies. She is from the Yakima Valley and plans to hopefully go back and teach for her community. She is part of Cohort 10 and is excited to show the UW life to her mentees. Her hobbies include, hiking, working out, and baking.


Josue Joaquin

Josue is a third year student studying Mechanical Engineering at UW. He is a first generation student, born and raised in Yakima, WA. Go Pirates!!! Josue was a member of Cohort 10 and is looking forward to working with his mentees. His favorite hobby includes anything car related. During his leisure time he enjoys working out, playing soccer, and journaling.

 

 


 

Araceli Calvario 

Araceli Calvario is a sophomore at the UW, and was apart of cohort 11. She hopes to major in Social Welfare. Her dream is to one day be able to go back to her hometown of Yakima, WA and serve children/teenagers from underprivileged backgrounds. She is also a Mexican first-generation student who was raised by a migrant single mother. After finishing undergrad, she wants to attend graduate school. On her free time, she enjoys exploring Seattle, shopping, and trying new boba shops!

 

 


 

Citlalli Guzman 

Citlalli Guzman is a junior at the University of Washington double majoring in Political Science and American Ethnic Studies. She is proudly from Moses Lake, where two incredible immigrant farm workers raised her. Currently, she is a Legal Assistant at UW Student Legal Services. She hopes to go to law school and become an immigration attorney to provide free/low-cost legal services for her community. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, making coffee, and trying new recipes.


 

Sandra Esquivel- Ruiz 

Sandra Esquivel is  a senior at the University of Washington pursuing a degree in Spanish with a minor in Diversity, and environmental studies. She is a first-generation college student from Brewster, WA and was a part of CAMP Cohort 9. Sandra loves to spend time with her loved ones. Also, she is  passionate about contributing to communities of color. She plans to become a Spanish teacher at the highschool level or college level.
