December 13, 2017 — "The availability of tau PET scanning using [18F]MK-6240 will help us investigate the different mechanisms that advance Alzheimer’s disease in the brain, as well as mechanisms of resilience, and will provide a revolutionary progression biomarker to guide therapeutic trials across all stages of the disease, especially the early stages when symptoms may be absent or ambiguous.” Read more.

Stomach-acid PPI meds don’t heighten dementia risk, UW ACT study indicates
November 17, 2017 — Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), such as Prevacid and Prilosec, have been linked to greater risks for several other conditions. Findings appear in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
Initial Analyses Available from the Aging, Dementia, and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Study
November 10, 2017 — In eLife, UW ADRC and Allen Brain researchers present an open-access resource of detailed molecular characterization of 107 brains from UW ACT Study. They detail the initial analyses to understand features of the aged brain, the relationship of dementia and pathology, and transcriptional signatures of dementia, neuropathology, and aging.
New In JAMA - Advance Directives for Dementia: Meeting a Unique Challenge
November 07, 2017 — Publishing Nov 6 in JAMA, UW Memory Brain's Drs. Gaster, Larson (ADRC), and Curtis lay out vision of better advance directives for dementia patients. They see a way to better align the medical care that patients get with the care they would have wanted, prevent suffering, and help families honor loved ones' wishes for life sustaining treatments.
20-Year Follow-Up to ACTIVE Study Gets Funded
October 26, 2017 — Co-PIs, Sherry Willis, PhD and (UW Medicine) George Rebok, PhD, (Johns Hopkins) were awarded $756k from NIH for a 20-year follow-up to the Advanced Cognitive Training for Independent and Vital Elderly (ACTIVE) study.
