UW Chemistry Third In The Nation

According to the NSF (see findings), UW Chemistry is third in the nation among departments of chemistry at public institutions by the measure of research expenditures from federal sources. Our $17.9 million in federal grant and contract expenditures for research placed us third, after University of California San Francisco ($22.2M) and University of California, Berkeley ($20.0M). University of Texas, Austin was 4th, at $16.1M.

If both public and private institutions are considered, UW Chemistry is 6th in the nation in federal grant and contract spending for research in chemistry, after UCSF, Berkeley, Caltech, Harvard, and MIT.

This research performance is especially noteworthy, given that UW Chemistry simultaneously runs the largest undergraduate degree program the nation (tied with UCLA).
