Joshua Vaughan to join faculty

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Joshua Vaughan to the Department of Chemistry. His work will focus on the development of new fluorescent probes for bio-nanoimaging and the application of these tools to probe the molecular-level organization of various cellular and organelle systems.

Professors Gelb and Turecek received the 2013 Gustavus John Esselen Award for Chemistry in the Public Interest for their work developing practical and reliable screening methodologies for the early detection of genetic diseases in newborns.

Werner Kaminsky, Research Associate Professor and Department Crystallographer, working with researchers at KinDex Therapeutics and the University of Washington, has recently determined the absolute configurations of the acids from hops that give beer its characteristic bitter flavor.
