UW CHEMISTRY NMR

Our NMR facility is a collective enterprise and we all have tacitly agreed to play fairly and by the rules, when we got the access privilege.  So, how much ever urgent your need is or however ‘quick and short’ a run will be,  you are doing a disservice to your fellow researchers,  if you simply get on an instrument without reserving time.  If you thought the instrument was free, by all means plan for a run but PLEASE RESERVE THE TIME FIRST.  Also note :  it is not that one cannot track the access on instruments based on userid (we do have the tools) but I think it is an inefficient and unwieldy operation of policing and it also goes against the fundamental grain of inherent trust we all place upon each other.  It will be rather nice if we can maintain that trust and not be forced to take restrictive actions that affect all users.
