UPDATE ! AV500 – GOOD OLD BBI PROBE IS BACK…

We have managed to fix the X-channel in house and also replaced broken parts where the sample resides inside the probehead.   Since things look  pretty good with the probe (see image of water suppression : BBI_Sucrose_ES_after_fix ) we are releasing the instrument for use  with BBI probe in place.   We will check a few more things with the probe but my investigation thus far shows that the probe is ready for routine spectroscopy.

I must add this point the nature of the damage sustained on the X-channel. The probe suffered, what is known as ‘arcing’, which pretty much burnt out one of the capacitors.  There may be more than one reason for such a damage to occur.  But, a user, carelessly setting up an experiment where a large amount of pulse power-pulse duration combination or  high decoupling power is  employed, can certainly lead to such a damage.  If you ever have any doubt about the experiment, please contact me or Adrienne for assistance.  Don’t second guess your parameters.

Thank you for your cooperation.
