UW CHEMISTRY NMR

Unlike the solutions spectrometers,  solid state NMR instrument is not amenable to a walk-on mode of operation, by the very nature of this spectroscopy.   First of all, the technique requires the use of an expensive rotor (approx. cost $1000/- ) in place of the NMR tube that costs about $10/-.  The sample preparation also needs to be carefully performed since the rotor spins at rates of 15 kHz or more.   Last but not least, acquisition of even the rudimentary spectra requires, hours if not days of spectrometer time.

For these reasons, every run requires a bit of hand holding and guidance, within the purview of available capabilities in our facility.
