UPDATE ! AV500 – SYSTEM BACK TO NORMAL OPERATIONS

There are two updates to be highlighted here :

  • AV500 is back to a three channel configuration after an (expensive) replacement of a failed circuit board.  You can therefore plan {1H, X, Y} type experiments.
  • The TBI-1H {13C,X} – Z gradient probe has been placed back in the magnet.
    • This probe has a dedicated 13C channel.
    •  Along with X-channel, in principle you can decouple two nuclei while observing 1H.  1H {record FID } while; (13C + X nucleus) {decouple simultaneously}
  • OTHER items of importance :
    • We shall provide two different standard shim sets from now on.
      • (a) for all samples dissolved in Deutero-Organic solvents
      • (b) Aqueous samples with H2O+D2O combination as solvent
      • LOOK AT THE PRINTED SHEET AFFIXED TO THE CONSOLE ON YOUR RIGHT FOR THE NAMES !
    • The reason for the above is a pragmatic one :  Topshim can optimize both Z-axis and XY plane shims with H2O+D2O.  But, it can optimize only the Z-axis shims with 2H based solvents.
    • Unless you have been touching up the low order X and Y shims by hand, the resolution you get will be rather substandard for all the 2H based solvents.  A quick and minimal workaround is to provide a standard shim set with X,Y, XZ and YZ shims pre-optimized. This is what we have decided to provide.

Please feel free to send your comments and questions on the above.

Thank you once again for patiently enduring the recent down time.
