UPDATE : RESUMING BASIC NMR TRAINING WITHIN SAFE START PARAMETERS – PLEASE READ

Dear NMR Users

With the help of hindsight provided by the calibrated reopening and operation of our NMR facility so far, we are trying to slowly scale up our activity in another important area :  Basic NMR training and certification for new NMR users.   This is particularly challenging to achieve given the social distancing norms and health and safety concerns that need to be respected at all costs.

As in the past (in pre-COVID19 days), the go-to person for you to answer all your questions regarding this training program is Dr. Adrienne Roehrich (amr0311@uw.edu). But I will proceed to give a summary of what is planned so that you can disseminate this information to all prospective new NMR users in your respective groups and encourage them to contact Adrienne with further questions.

We have run some successful test runs of a hybrid model, which we are trying to bring into main stream in a measured way. In a nutshell :

  • First Part: A Zoom based remote session where the spectrometer will be driven remotely by the instructor (within  the limits of Zoom technology, there is no apparent limit to the number of persons that can attend this session)
  • Second Part: A separate session where the prospective user will attend the NMR Safety in-person training/demonstration at the NMR lab in the presence of the instructor
  • MOST IMPORTANT : the in-person second part will run with ONLY ONE PERSON at a given time with the Instructor present. (NO EXCEPTIONS ! YOU CAN’T COME AS A GROUP AND EXPECT THE TRAINING TO BE COMPLETED; SEE BELOW FOR SCHEDULING INSTRUCTIONS).
  • Once the instructor certifies the in-person operation, you will take a brief online Safety Quiz and satisfy its requirements.
  • Upon completion of the above, you will be provided access to the facility and new user accounts will be created using your UWNetid.

(The above plan is still a work-in-progress and so please be patient with any technical glitches that is prone to happen along the way)

An online Training Calendar and Registration system is in place where one can register for upcoming Training Sessions.

At this point, I direct you to contact Adrienne for scheduling instructions and how to sign up for your next training.

Thank you for your patience and understanding
