Announcments & Equipment Logs

ALERT ! AV500 OK – WITH IMPORTANT CHANGE – PLEASE READ !

CURRENT STATUS :

First I will highlight that the sporadic Topshim problem is gone now and the shimming is behaving as expected.  That should come as a relief to all of you who exclusively use 2H lock solvents other than (H2O+D2O) or (CH3OH+D2O).

IMPORTANT – PROBEHEAD CHANGED TO BBI

In the process of system troubleshoot,  I swapped in the BBI probe and pulled out the existing TBI probe.   This probe is also optimized for 1H sensitivity and gives excellent signal on the samples I ran.  You can run Topshim on this as before.  And, as before, you have to tune/match this probe by hand – NO ATMA !

CAPABILITIES PRESERVED :

You are still getting a 1H sensitive broad band probe that should handle all your X-nuclei as well as 1H needs.   The probe is also in good condition for all your VT experiments.

The only change you will notice is that you have to tune/match the 13C channel as in the old days i.e. using the Tune/Match card and dial in 4 digits for the 13C tuning and 3 digits for the matching. Same is true for all the X-nuclei. If you have doubts please contact Adrienne or myself to give you a hand.

Further Thoughts :

The TBI probe itself deserved some much needed attention on the bench, outside the magnet for a while now. The 13C tuning/matching has been flaky and occasionally people noticed some 1H channel anomalies.  There are a few mechanical spruce ups that are in order.

Using this transition, we will work to give a fresh look/feel to the TBI probe and return it to service in the next month or so.

THE INSTRUMENT IS RELEASED FOR IMMEDIATE USE !
