(AGAIN) AN APPEAL ! – ON BEHALF OF MYSELF THIS TIME..

Dear Users

After all these years, I don’t know if the prevailing opinion of my presence in the NMR lab is one of the following :

  • harbinger of a broken instrument
  • a Canary in the coal mine about damaged NMR Instruments
  • a bad Omen about NMRs that are about to fail.

But, my presence in the NMR lab doesn’t have to mean any of these.

As part of a renewed and refreshed approach to make the NMR facility deliver more for your precious time here, you can expect to see my face more at the facility, just in the spirit of “How can I help ?”

My presence doesn’t mean that something is broken. I emphasize this because, it is becoming a cliche that users ask me “is something broken ? “, the moment they see me in Bagley 37.

So, I appeal to you :

  • If  you suspect an instrument is ailing/broken/compromised, etc. believe that ONLY after one of the following :

    • Look for announcement via a medium like this

    • Be informed by one of the facility staff when you talk to them

    • Look for a Log Book Entry by a fellow user in a given instrument’s log book page

    • If in doubt, please reach out and talk to us.

  • Please refrain from spreading impressions/rumors by word of mouth about an instrument.

    • Enter your observation in a Log Book.

    • Try to contact one of us the moment you see something is amiss.

    • Send an Email with the details.

As Always, thank you for your kind co-operation.
