IMPORTANT NOTE ! – PLEASE DO NOT BRING WORK GLOVES INTO NMR LAB !!

Users

Although you have been told during your orientation in no uncertain terms, it is worth repeating and remind ourselves.

NO GLOVES IN THE NMR LAB ! ESPECIALLY, NEVER HANDLE THE NMR SPINNER WITH GLOVED HANDS (SEE PICTURE BELOW)

Spinner detection strip smudged by solvent

This is one of the brand new spinners that came with the NEO500 NMR INSTRUMENT. The black and yellow strips that are critical for the sample to be detected when inside the magnet and spin properly, are completely smudged.  Most probable cause of this is some residual organic solvent that dissolved the pigment in the strips. One of the common ways this happens is when you handle the NMR spinner with your lab gloves ON.

Expensive :

These spinners can run upto $300/- a piece and become unaffordable to replace, if we are not careful.

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION AND REFRAIN FROM BRINGING YOUR WORK GLOVES INTO THE NMR LAB !  NO EXCEPTIONS.
