UPDATE – AV300 – PROBE TUNING ISSUES

There has been repeated reported reports, albeit only from a subset of users, that the ATMA probe tuning/matching is taking very long.   I want to first assure you that we are already working on possible ways to resolve this.

Recap :  Historically all NMR probes were tuned/matched by hand and this is an important and necessary skill set that was expected of any NMR user, even today.  Even now, we have at least two of the four instruments in NMR lab that have probes that need be tuned/matched by hand.

Looking Ahead :  The ATMA computerized motor system has taken the drudgery out of tuning/matching by hand. But the downside is that, these electromechanical systems do age and break, eventually.  What we are facing with AV300 is one such predicament.  While we are energetically looking for ways to fix the ATMA issue with the existing probe, be prepared for the day (soon), when we will place one of our older probes that was always tuned/matched by hand in the magnet, while we try to get the current ATMA probe repaired.

If you need any help/orientation about how to tune/match a probe by hand, you should contact either Adrienne or me as soon as possible.

Stay tuned for further developments on this important issue.
