UW CHEMISTRY NMR

Dear Users

Those of you who attempted to book NMR time TODAY as usual would have noticed the eerie quietness of the calendar page for any of the instruments.  Even the maintenance related reservations such as cryogen fills will have disappeared.  For some Netid-s the reservation system allows you to block time and for most of the Netid-s, the system doesn’t allow you login.

The big picture is that this is a result of the cutover to the new financial system and all the associated moving parts that go with it.  Every purchasing/accounting related operation in the department is in a flux right now and our tireless Accounting team is working rather hard to make the transition complete as soon as they can.

At the local NMR level, we are going to deal with this unpredictable state in the following manner :

• Until the online accounting system is confirmed to work smoothly for ALL the UWNetid-s, the reservation calendars will be disabled for booking. We know that this is going to be a temporary measure, and so, don’t worry.
• We will provide a hardcopy reservation sheet at each instrument.  You have to come and block your time on a first-come-first-serve basis for the given day’s walk on period and the overnight long block for that given day. 
• The sheets will have the Date listed.  We will collect the reservation sheet at the end of the day for uploading into the Accounting software later.
• We need everyeone’s cooperation in following the protocol listed above.  Please use the honor code of not blocking more than the maxmimum of 60 min for a given Netid during the Walk-On period.
• We will switch back to the online reservation, as soon as we get the Green signal from the Accounting team about the transition of all valid Netid-s into the new system

EXCEPTION – NEO500 :

• Until we inform you, you will continue entering the Budget number as an essential item in the IconNMR interface for NEO500 and queue the experiments as before.
