AV500 : PLANNED PROBE CHANGE and B0 FIELD CHANGE

The X{1H} -Z grad BBO probe will be tested and installed on 26th Oct’12, Friday.  The probe optimization will be performed over the weekend and the probe should be ready for use by Monday, the 28th of Oct ’12.  Along with this operation, the B0 field will be readjusted to re-position the LOCK field to a smaller value. Such a repositioning is warranted once in a decade, to compensate for the constant but miniscule loss of energy from the supercon magnet over years.   A similar operation was performed on the DRX499 instrument a few months ago.  The consequence of this will be a slightly smaller base frequency of the system, typically of the order of 20 kHz below the the current value.  More updates will be posted, once the operation is successful.
