UPDATE ! AV300 : BACKUP BBO PROBE SHIMMED UP AND READY TO GO !
Dear All
The ATMA probe has been sent for repairs and I immediately don’t know when it will return from the manufacturer. In the meanwhile, the Broad band BBO probe, which uses manual tuning/matching in place of the automated system is now in the magnet.
Although we are all rather used to the comfort of letting the computer take care of the routine chores such as tuning/matching and shimming, I encourage you to use this instrument with the conventional probe as any other instrument and get to know a bit of the art of shimming by hand in the process. It will always come in handy wherever you go and encounter an NMR machine in your scheme of things, which may not have all the bells and whistles.
Considerable effort has gone in priming all the shims for this probe, and I was pretty surprised that the line shape even with this old probe looks this good ! I will show below the 1H spectrum from the line shape standard that we use to elaborately optimize the shim system for any probehead. Even without spinning the sample (Yellow spectrum) the line shape and resolution looks phenomenal with this probe.
So, put this probe to good use.
AS always, please do not hesitate to reach out to either Adrienne or myself if you need any help in using this probe.
