UPDATE !! AV301 – SYSTEM UP WITH ATMA PROBE, WITH CAVEATS – PLEASE READ
My dear long-suffering and patient NMR users !
The AV301 instrument is available for immediate use.
- You can use ATMA command to tune 1H nucleus.
- You can also use either topshim (command line) or topshim gui (graphical interface) to shim on your solvent.
Here are the caveats that you should note :
- The probe’s X-BAND CAPABILITY i.e. 13C, 31P etc. nuclei are NOT available.
- This is related to an obscure hardware/software failure combination, which, much to our consternation, cannot be fixed. This is related to the age of this instrument.
- You can only use 1H at this point of time on this instrument.
- The 2H channel problem that led to repeated failure on weak lock solvents such as CDCl3 is not fully resolved.
- This too, unfortunately, is a subtle issue related to the age of the components in the instrument
- We are trying to service the age related points of failure but it will be a protracted process.
- Any replacement parts are increasingly hard to come by for old instruments such as these.
This is not the best set of news I could give on the instrument. But at least this should restore some of the bandwidth of usage we lost due to this long downtime.
To assure you that the sample spectra I recorded look pretty good, I show an example below.
Thank you for your patient cooperation.
