REMINDER : NEO500 – CALENDAR AND QUEUE

Dear Users

We hope that you have come to like the convenience of walking up to NEO500 without planning to reserve NMR time a priori.

This is a decidedly efficient protocol in extracting maximum from the instrument as well.  Nevertheless, ensuring the smooth running of this complex system that can always give you the data you need also means that there are some inevitable overheads.

These overheads typically take the form of :

  • Magnet and Cryoprobe regular maintenance and cryogen service
  • Troubleshooting imminent issues and solving them
  • Routine Calibrations to ensure that the system is in top shape
  • Optimization of some experiments as per user requests, overall configuration tweaks, software updates that need a presence at the instrument.
  • User assistance and training in general.

Some of the above are pre-planned events, such as the routine maintenance and calibration.  Others may have to occur at a short notice or at sporadic intervals.

As already mentioned to you during NEO500 training, we are emphasizing and requesting here that you kindly check the NEO500 Instrument Reservation Webpage to see if the calendar is blocked off at that time for one of the above activities, before you make the trip down to Bagley 37 to save effort.

To make this process easier, we have provided some additional handles :

  • On the NEO500 Reservation Page, you have a direct link to the Live Queue status of the running experiment(s).
  • If the existing IconNMR queue is in ‘Run’ status, you will see the following web page:
  • If the IconNMR queue has Stopped or Paused  (due to any of the listed events above), you will see the following page :
  • Access to the Reservation Page is right there and that should show what is going on :
  • You can also bookmark this page and access the queue status directly, at any time :  https://thermometer.chem.washington.edu/cgi-bin/iconqueue
  • Lastly, a request :  if either me or Adrienne have just encountered an issue and busy putting out the fire before getting to updating the calendar,  kindly be considerate.  In such an event, at the least, we will be at the instrument to explain to you what is going on.   We will try our utmost to first broadcast before blocking the instrument.
