UW CHEMISTRY NMR

We have ordered the necessary replacement parts and asked the manufacturer to ship them asap.  I am hoping that it will be Thursday before we get these parts.  I am releasing the instrument for nominal use, with the following caveats, until we get the new boards in :

• The wobb signals WILL be noisy, but the probe can be tuned ok.
• The pulse width for 1H is really large i.e. 18 us at -2 dB power.  Contrast this with something like 8 us at lower power.
• The large pulse width also means that 1H decoupling may not be very efficient.
• Those who attempt spin locking experiment such as TOCSY SHOULD BE EXTRA CAREFUL not to over drive the probe.  PLEASE ASK IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT !

The new boards should remedy all these and I am optimistic that by Friday the system should be in prime condition and ready for use.
